In 1997, Attorney General Janet Reno, FBI Director Louis J. Freeh, CIA Director George J. Tenet and NSA Director Kenneth A. Minihan testified before the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee about Ted Sioeng. They claimed to have credible information that this Los Angeles-based Chinese Indonesian businessman intended to influence the 1996 elections.
